Chinese New Year is on Thursday 7th February.


Write a paragraph to explain how Chinese New Year is celebrated.

We celebrate chinese new-year on the 31 january. Each year is associated with one of the twelve animals. The dragon is a symbol of happiness and good luck. It starts on a different date each year. In order to better understand the Chinese New Year we should look at its origin.

The Chinese New Year lasts for 15days and people spend alot of time with their family.To celebrate Chinese New Year people dress up in dragon costumes and dance down streets roaring to scare away any bad luck.

The Chinese New Year is the most inportant celebration on the Chinese calendar. During Chinese New Year the Chinese meet up with their family and friends. They have many traditions which they do to bring good luck.

Many chinese people celebrate their birthdays on Chinese New Year and not on the day they were actually born.

Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.

Chinese New Year is celebrated with a new moon.There are 12 animals of the zodiac.They had a race across a river to decide who was going to be the first in the calendar.The Chinese calendar is different from the UK calendar.Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival.It is the main Chinese festival. The Chinese new year is celebrated on the 7th of February it signifies the beginning of Spring and the end of winter.People decorate their houses with red decorations to frighten away the beast which came and ate the people in the villages.This is part of the origin of the celebration.

Chinese New Year is celebrated by people dancing through the streets in huge fancy dragon costumes. They have enormous firework displays at night and eat fancy food such as New Year fortune cookies and seafood and dumplings. Each year has it's own animal as a symbol for year. This year is the year of the rat.

Chinese New Year is also called "Lunar New Year". The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first lunar month - February 7 in 2008 and the celebrations often include dragon/lion dances, firework displays, laterns and family meals.There are 12 animal names and this year is Year of the Rat.

Chinese New Year is celebrated by people dancing in dragon costumes and wear masks.They have beautiful firework displays at night and eat lots of lovely food they eat New Year fortune cookies,sea food and dumplings.They also have there own animal symbols there is the snake,ox,dragon,rat and lots more.

Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year by dancing, wearing very decoritive dragon costumes, eating special meals and having a huge fireworks display at night.Chinese New Year is on a different day each year but every year it is always between January 21st and February 20th.

Chinese new year is celebrated by setting off fireworks and having street parades. The Chinese people make special foods and dance while wearing giant dragon costumes which three or four people all fit under.Each year in China the year is named after an animal or reptile.

Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year by dressing up in dragon costumes. Chinese New Year is on the 7th February this year and this year in the year of the Rat. On Chinese New Year Chinese people have a food feast of seafood and dumpling.They celebrate with there families,buying presents and putting up decorations.The message of Chinese New Year is for peace and Happiness.

Chinese New Year is celebrated by people visiting relatives.
Children are given red packets by the married and elders.These packets contain money.
It is also celebrated by people dancing in the street in fancy costumes and there is fire work displays.

The Chinese New year starts with the new moon and ends 15 days later with the Lantern Festival. This is where children carry lanterns in a parade. New year is a family celebration. Homes are decorated with pretty blossoms, plates of oranges and sweets. There is a big celebration of music and dancing and people dress up in dragon costumes to scare away bad sprites.

The Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day of the first moon of the lunar calendar. It is a time for family reunions and for visiting friends. The Chinese New Year's Eve dinner is very important. Every corner of the house must be swept and cleaned. On New Year's Day the children are given red envelopes which have lucky money inside. Everyone wears new clothes. The entire first week is for fun. Everyone celebrates getting a year older at New Year. On the 15th day of celebrations New Year ends with the lantern festival. People carry lanterns to take part in a great parade, where the Chinese dragon performs a dance.

Chinese new year is on the 7th Febuary,it is also called the spring festival.Chinese new year is not a religious festival.There was someone called Buddha and he called all the animals but only 12 animals turned up and they were rat,ox,tiger,rabbit,dragon,snake, horse,goat,monkey,rooster,dog and pig.So all the years are named after the 12 animals starting with the rat and ending with the pig.

Well done Primary 6. All of you who did this homework, both on the blog or on paper, have found out lots of interesting facts about Chinese New Year. It is a very special time for Chinese people and the traditions and customs are fascinating. We will be exploring Chinese New Year more in class this week. We are also having a special Chinese New Year celebration on Wednesday 6th February with the whole school in the hall where you will see some Chinese dancing, Chinese cards, money envelopes, animal masks, etc. It will be great fun.
