The ancient games were different from the modern games because the old games were to honour Zeus and the modern games are for talented athletes.the material prizes were things such as tripods,cauldrons,valuable metals,oxen and women.Any free man in a greek polis could participate if he was fit enough.The events were bowing horse riding,chariot racing and riding.I think the modern olympics are better because they move about and women are aloud to compete.

The ancient Olympics were rather different from the modern Games. There were fewer events, and only free men who spoke Greek could compete, instead of athletes from any country. Also, the games were always held at Olympia instead of moving around to different sites every time.
Ancient competitors were required to train at Olympia for a month before the Games officially started.

The athletes took part in pentathlon,running,jumping,discus throw,wrestling,boxing,pankrathtion and equestrian events.The prizes were olive wreaths.All free male Greek citizens were entitled to participate but married women were not allowed to participate.I think the modern Olympic games are better because all citizens are entitled to participate in the modern Olympic games.

Woman where not allowed to take part in the olympics but men and boys were. The olympics were held in Olympia because it was one of the oldest Greek centers. The winner got a crown made of olivies and a statue of themselfs set up in Olympia. Anyone who cheated got fined and all the money went to pay for statues of Zeus. The sports that the men took part in were boxing,equestrian event,chariot racing,prankration,pentathlon,

jumping,running and wrestling. The judges were only people from Olympia. The first winner was Koroibos of Elis traditionally dated 776 B.C.

Traditionally it has always been said that the Ancient Olympic Games started in Olympia in 776 BC.
Only men that could speak Greek and were free (not slaves),could take part in the Ancient Olympic Games. Now anybody round the world can take part in the Olympic Games.
The very first events was different types of running. Over the years more events were added like: boxing, wrestling, pankration (like martial arts), several other running races, long jump and javelin throw.
The athletes normally competed naked, not only as the weather was hot but also as the festival was meant to celebrate, in part, the acheivements of the human body.
The winners of the Olympic events were awarded an olive branch, and often received with honour to his home town which is given alot of money.

Unlike the modern Olympic Games,only free men who spoke greek were allowed to participate in the ancient Games. The Olympic Games originally contained one event: the stadion (or "stade") race, a short sprint measuring between 180 and 240 metres. A longer race of 400 metres was introduced in 724BC and a 5km race was introduced four years later. Over the years more events were added such as wrestling, chariot racing and discus throwing. The prizes were olive wreaths, palm branches and woollen ribbons. The winner of an Olympic event was often granted large sums of money.
I think the modern Olympic Games are better because there are many more events and both male and female athletes from all over the world can take part.

The ancient games differ from todays games by way of prizes,male and female participants, the number of events has increased and some events now no longer exist.
I think the modern games are better because there are now mixed participants,they can take part in multiple events,the opening and closing ceremonies are getting more spectacular and now you get a medal instead of an olive wreath for 1st place and medals for 2nd and 3rd places rather than nothing in the ancient games.

It's easy to assume the ancient Olympic games were diffrent,that ancient Greek athletes were pure in mind and body ,that they trained and competed for no other reason than the love of physical exercise,fair competition and to honor their gods.But is this really true well no.In fact,politics,nationalism,commercialism and athletics were intimately related in the ancient Olympics games.We may not realize it,but in today's games we recreate-with suprising accuracy-the climate and circumstances surrounding the ancient Olympic games.
The ancientOlympic games had only one event and that was a 200yrd sprint.And the men could only enter the race if they were free and able to speak greek.the runners ran the race naked and on a dirty track.

In the Ancient Olympics athletes took part in boxing, chartiot racing, Pankation ( a mixture of boxing and wrestling), Pentathlon, Running and Wrestling.

Another difference between Ancient and Modern Olympics is the Modern Olympics last longer (2 weeks) and the Ancient Olympics lasted only five days.
I think the modern games are better because it lasts longer and I think it's more exciting because there are lots of events.
